    Black rain by Semiconductor

    [posted by Benz Roos]

Black Rain from Semiconductor on Vimeo.

Last year the Royal Academy in London showed this piece in the exhibition ‘Earth’. This video art work is called Black Rain and is made by Semiconductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt).
Black Rain is sourced from images collected by the twin satellite, solar mission, STEREO. Here we see the HI (Heliospheric Imager) visual data as it tracks interplanetary space for solar wind and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) heading towards Earth.
I like this movie a lot. The raw data has some exciting neatness. It shows our sun in a different way then we used to. make sure to check the site of Semiconductor for more interesting images. source:creative applications

        UK pavilion expo 2010 video

        [posted by Benz Roos]

Video showing the amazing UK pavilion, by Heatherwick studio, at the world expo 2010 in Shanghai. This video is made by channel beta. The video is a bit long, however it shows the light effects of the transparent acrylic rods with the embedded seeds. It gives a good view from the interior of the pavilion as well. Unfortunately the video doesn’t show any nighttime footage. It must be very cool looking with those 60.000 glowing rods. I’ll probably will post some more images of the pavilion in the near future, I really love Heatherwick’s design! source: archdaily

Four Letter Words from Rob Seward on Vimeo.

Awesome mechanical machine by Rob Seward. It consists of four units, each capable of displaying all 26 letters of the alphabet with an arrangement of fluorescent lights. The piece displays an algorithmically generated word sequence, derived from a word association database developed by the University of South Florida between 1976 and 1998. The algorithms take into account word meaning, rhyme, letter sequencing, and association. source: Today and Tomorrow
