Black rain by Semiconductor
[posted by Benz Roos]
Black Rain from Semiconductor on Vimeo.
Last year the Royal Academy in London showed this piece in the exhibition ‘Earth’. This video art work is called Black Rain and is made by Semiconductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt).
Black Rain is sourced from images collected by the twin satellite, solar mission, STEREO. Here we see the HI (Heliospheric Imager) visual data as it tracks interplanetary space for solar wind and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) heading towards Earth.
I like this movie a lot. The raw data has some exciting neatness. It shows our sun in a different way then we used to. make sure to check the site of Semiconductor for more interesting images. source:creative applications -

Breathing Room III 2010 by Antony Gormley, photo by Ben Westoby
Antony Gormley has made an installation in the basement of the white cube gallery. The installation exist of 15 interconnecting photo-luminescent rectangular frames. Every ten minutes the room is filled for 10 seconds with an intense burst of light to ‘re-energize’ the photo-luminescent frames. Breathing room III and invites the viewer to enter the glowing frames. The glowing light of the frames gives the viewer a strange experience of the sculpture space. If you’re in London you should definitely have a look at the white cube. Otherwise a have look at Gormley’s site to see his sculptures

UK pavilion expo 2010 video
[posted by Benz Roos]
Video showing the amazing UK pavilion, by Heatherwick studio, at the world expo 2010 in Shanghai. This video is made by channel beta. The video is a bit long, however it shows the light effects of the transparent acrylic rods with the embedded seeds. It gives a good view from the interior of the pavilion as well. Unfortunately the video doesn’t show any nighttime footage. It must be very cool looking with those 60.000 glowing rods. I’ll probably will post some more images of the pavilion in the near future, I really love Heatherwick’s design! source: archdaily

Speed of light by UVA
[posted by Benz Roos]

One of the installations of UVA's “Speed of Light” at the Bargehouse
Last week I’ve visited the installation “Speed of Light” by United Visual Artists at the Bargehouse in London. The installation is commissioned by Virgin Media to celebrate 10 years of broadband internet in the UK. At the entrance you’ve been asked several questions to guide the last through the rest of the show. My personal favorite installation is at the top floor where you several laser project single words on the ground. source: Today and Tomorrow
