Sony’s new O-LED screen
[posted by Benz Roos]
Sony is showing off a new 4.1″ rollable OLED display at SID 2010. The new display has a 423×240 resolution (121ppi) with 16.8 million colors and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. It’s only 80 um thick.
The video shows how fast and weirdly the O-LED industry is developing. I think that most of the O-LED light fixtures are quit boring compared to this! It also show the real opportunity for the use of O-LED technology! So in the future we’ll just have roll-out your light fixture if you need a bit more light on your desk. source:o-led info -

The installation is currently on show at MUSEUM. beyond museum in Seoul. I absolutely love this work of art, all tough it’s a bit kitschy. Have a look at Dezeen for more in images. source: Dezeen

Sanaa’s O-LED fixture
[posted by Benz Roos]

O-LED concept fixture by Sanaa for Zumtobel
Japanese architects Sanaa have developed this concept O-LED fixture for Zumtobel. O-LEDs are great everyone in the lighting world will agree, however all O-LED fixtures seems to be a bit disappointing. Why is that? Is expectation too high? or are O-LED not cool enough or does it all needs to take time? However in the end I had to say I quit like this Sanaa design! source:designboom

Tokujin Yoshioka’s new bright shining star
[posted by Benz Roos]

Stella by Tokujin
Tokujin Yoshioka has made new work for Swarovski Crystal Palace, debuting at Milan Design Week this April. The two pieces share a visual sensibility, but come from different conceptual places. The massive chandelier, “Stella,” takes its cues from a star shining outwards, emitting many rays of light in space. The “Venus” chair—this is awesome—is grown in an aquarium bath filled with tiny natural crystals, an extension of an earlier exploration.

Danish-Icelandic artist olafur eliasson’s ‘your chance encounter’, is a large solo exhibition
of his work on show at the 21st century museum of contemporary art, kanazawa, Japan. What a shame I’m not in Japan at the moment! The art works seems so interesting again. source: Designboom - Older Posts »
