UK pavilion expo 2010 video
[posted by Benz Roos]
Video showing the amazing UK pavilion, by Heatherwick studio, at the world expo 2010 in Shanghai. This video is made by channel beta. The video is a bit long, however it shows the light effects of the transparent acrylic rods with the embedded seeds. It gives a good view from the interior of the pavilion as well. Unfortunately the video doesn’t show any nighttime footage. It must be very cool looking with those 60.000 glowing rods. I’ll probably will post some more images of the pavilion in the near future, I really love Heatherwick’s design! source: archdaily

One Day Poem Pavilion
[posted by Donald®]

The One Day Pavilion
The results of an extensive exploration with shadows, the One Day Poem Pavilion demonstrates the poetic, transitory, site-sensitive and time-based nature of light and shadow.
Using a complex array of perforations, the pavilion’s surface allows light to pass through creating shifting patterns, which–during specific times of the year–transform into the legible text of a poem.

Jean Nouvel’s new roof
[posted by Benz Roos]
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and President Sarkozy also inaugurated a new preview experience of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, being presented through 2 July in Gallery One of Emirates Palace. Titled Talking Art: Louvre Abu Dhabi, the preview features a brief film about the design for the Louvre Abu Dhabi by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel; an illustrated talk; and a guided tour of selected artworks specially chosen to demonstrate the curatorial vision of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
I like the shadow play of the massive roof. It really seems to have a idyllic sunshine like you will experience on a sunny day in a forest. Have a look on the link to see more amazing images of the design.

Idea of a tree
[posted by Benz Roos]
The idea of a tree is a machine which produce furniture by sunshine. Every product of the machine is different depending on the location and time of the day of the machine. The color of the product changing by the amount of sunlight. In this way every product is slightly different and a sort of 3D photograph of space and time. The machine is inspired by nature and the growing process of a tree. I personally really like the idea of growing furniture. Designer: Mischer Traxler, source: Dezeen
