    Swarm Light by rAndom International

‘Swarm Light’ by rAndom International / Design Miami / Art Basel 2010 from rAndom International on Vimeo.

rAndom International has presented their latest work “Swarm Light” at Design Miami/Art Basel. On their website rAndom international writes:”‚Self Portrait‘ (working title) is the archetypal blank canvas that engages you, the spectator, with a large-scale, ephemeral representation of yourself. All evidence of the encounter exists only in the moment of interaction between you, the viewer, and the object. Gradually, moment and image fade away, never to be repeated.
In addition to these new works, on the ground floor rAndom will be presenting ‚You Fade to Light‘ with the Carpenters Workshop Gallery. The installation translates the viewer’s presence from a mirror image into light, encouraging a physical / kinesthetic engagement with light itself.”

NASA Goes-15 spacecraft returned its first x-ray image to earth. Scientist faced a lot problem due voltage problems in the instruments of the spacecraft. GOES-15 is observing the surface of the sun to predict space weather.
I think those images of the sun are really interesting and beautiful. When You see the sun at day you never really realize it looks actually more like the image above! source: nasa

        Black rain by Semiconductor

Black Rain from Semiconductor on Vimeo.

Last year the Royal Academy in London showed this piece in the exhibition ‘Earth’. This video art work is called Black Rain and is made by Semiconductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt).
Black Rain is sourced from images collected by the twin satellite, solar mission, STEREO. Here we see the HI (Heliospheric Imager) visual data as it tracks interplanetary space for solar wind and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) heading towards Earth.
I like this movie a lot. The raw data has some exciting neatness. It shows our sun in a different way then we used to. make sure to check the site of Semiconductor for more interesting images. source:creative applications

            Augmented Shadow

            [posted by Benz Roos]

Augmented Shadow_document from Joon Y Moon on Vimeo.

Joon Moon has made an interactive art piece called Augmented Shadow. On his website he writes:”Augmented Shadow is a design experiment producing an artificial shadow effect through the use of tangible objects, blocks, on a displayable tabletop interface. Its goal is to offer a new type of user-experience. The project plays on the fact that shadows present distorted silhouettes depending on the light. Augmented Shadows take the distortion effect into the realm of fantasy. Shadows display below the objects according to the physics of the real world. However, the shadows themselves transform the objects into houses, occupied by shadow creatures. By moving the blocks around the table the user sets off series of reactions within this new fantasy ecosystem.
This experiment brings augmented reality to the tabletop by way of a tangible interface. The shadow effect is an ‘interface metaphor.’ Second, the unexpected user experience results from manipulating the users’ visual perceptions, expectations, and imagination to inspire re-perception and new understanding. Therefore, users can play with the shadows lying on the boundary between the real, virtual, and fantasy.” source: creative applications
