Prototype of adaptive eye-care glasses by Professor Joshua Silver

Professor Joshua Silver is working since 1996 to solve the problem of getting cheap glasses for people in developing countries. This version is liquid based lens system. To adjust the focus of the lens for each individual user liquid is poured into the lenses. In this way the glasses are cheap(20 USD) and can give each one the specific individual adjustment for his or her eye.
I think this type of lens system is really great. I like the idea of helping out people, however for lighting design it could be very use full as well. For example such a system would be brilliant to focus lenses of LED fixtures. Which can reduce light pollution.

      txtBOMBER

      [posted by Benz Roos]

TEXTBOMER from H@nnes at HfG on Vimeo.

German designer Felix Pioneer has invented a handheld wall printer for political statements called txtBOMBER. He writes on his site: The txtBOMBER is a one-hand-guerrilla-tool – a machine not much bigger than a pressing iron – that generates political statements on the fly and immidiately prints them on any flat surface.
If you feel you are part of our modern generation viewless, the txtBOMBER is the perfect tool for you! Just switch it on, it’s powered by a strong battery. And move it along a wall. It’s that easy to show your? Its? Someones? opinion of something? someone? Hell! You should reconsider if you are keen enough to use it!
The seven txtBOMBER has build-in pens to “print” the letters and a micro-controller-brain (Arduino), no need for a computer or any other brain.” have a look on his site for more cool techy images of the product! source: Core77

o-led desk lamp prototype by GE and KM

GE and Konica Minolta announced that they have achieved a “major breakthrough” in their white OLEDs: an efficient 56Lm/w flexible white OLED that is made using solution-coatable materials in a roll-to-roll printing process. The materials have “commercially viable lifetime” (we do not know exactly what they mean by that).”(o-led info). See the press statement here.
It’s quit exciting this new technology, however the fixtures and design-ideas are really boring. Like the ugly desk lamp pictured above. I’m really looking forward to see the first amazing designs for this superb technology! source: oled info

N-3D DEMO from aircord on Vimeo.

Aircord lab has designed a pyramid screen with special film for an I-pad. When a I-pad is placed on top of the pyramid, a virtual 3D illusion can be seen in the pyramid. Imagine this holographic technology with a skype video call! Have a look on their website for more interesting projects. source: creative applications

            TEDx Amsterdam Promo

            [posted by Donald®]

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
